So, who is
Greg Barreto?

So, first, a question: proposed bills got you hot yet?
We knew it was coming, but seriously nutty is here,
like a "gun control" bill written by high-schoolers?
Threats against Measure 5, early release of criminals,
and assault on the fuels of life with a "carbon tax"?
And STILL no solution for the PERS nightmare!

How do we FIGHT BACK against this departure from reason?

By remembering our past victories, for one thing.
We stopped drivers licenses for illegals, right?
And by planning ahead, hence our February speaker:
Greg Barreto
House Deputy
GOP Leader
Greg Barreto

Greg is a long-time Oregonian with deep roots,
a successful -- and awarded -- entrepreneur,
a conservative thinker, politician, and leader.

Did I mention he represents part of Oregon's "heartland",
where Salem hasn't made conservatism illegal yet?

Judo teaches how to use the movement of your opponent to
take them down before they even know they're falling.

The Democrats are so drunk with power that they are
totally off-balance, and can't even see their mis-steps.

Join us Wednesday night, and let's set up the match.

Submitting Followup Information

Executive Club passes on meeting followup information as a courtesy to our speakers and members. Any member or speaker may submit, by email, a simple update text presentation to be sent to the club mailing list, to give the membership to have more details, or just a recap of your platform presentation. To be considered for publication, please be sure to submit your update within 24 hours of the close of the meeting. Please don't include any pictures in your text, but links to web pages, or links to things stored elsewhere on the web -- .pdf files, Word documents, or even pictures -- are OK now. Formatting and inserted pictures will not be copied, just the text content, so please don't use 4 fonts and 6 colors to convey your thoughts: you will be disappointed. Look at a previous followup email, or the bottom of most of the invitation emails, to see how they are presented. The simpler and cleaner your text, the more likely it will appear exactly the same in the email we send out. Each update must also indicate the author's name and contact information -- either a phone number, email address, or website with contact information. We reserve the right to edit for brevity, or reject, any submission.

Mt. Hood Republican Women January 2019 Updates

We trust everyone enjoyed a peaceful and good Christmas and are looking forward to a Happy and prosperous New Year.

A big Thank You to everyone for another successful Christmas Auction. Our sales and donations totaled $ 937. This will enable us to help more people. All candy canes were delivered to the Salvation Army 194th and S. E. Stark Center and the food drive at Sandy High School with many thanks.

So far we have escaped any cold, paralyzing snow and ice storms and are holding out hope for February and March to be just as mild. A slight dusting would be welcome but no ice, please.

We are looking ahead to a 2019 Legislative Session loaded with new tax measures. We must stay alert and keep in close contact with our Representatives and Senators in Salem. Our "Kicker" could be the first victim followed closely by the carbon tax. We will be awaiting any action on Oregon's $22 Billion public pension debt 'PERS'. Without action, our schools will continue to operate with fewer funds than we, the public, have voted for. All will go toward 'PERS' and not new books, building maintenance or enhanced security.

With the recently passed housing for the homeless measures, all property taxes will rise, therefore endangering homeowners and renters alike.

Our proposed initiative regarding a vote by the people on tolling roads should be ready for signatures soon. We will alert everyone when the petitions are available. Meanwhile more light rail plans are being approved for Portland.

Wednesday, January 2, 2019, 7pm, Airport Shilo Inn, 11707 N.E. Airport Way, Executive Club will have Bridget Barton, Director of Oregon Pathfinder (a n/p 501(c)4 dedicated to improving Oregon's economy), presenting ideas for Oregon rural and suburbanites following the November election defeats and Dr. Eric Fruits, with comments on how to implement Ms. Barton's ideas and how bad Governor Brown's Taxing second term will be. All are welcome to attend and participate in the free spirit thinking of the late Don McIntire and like-minded citizens. $20 dinner is available and plenty of free parking.

Remember your 2019 dues can now be paid. Please join us in educating and informing all Republicans regarding our goals for Oregon and our Nation. Please mail $ 25. Regular Membership or $ 15 Associate Membership to Treasurer Billie Goodwin, 13030 N.E. Couch St., Portland, 97230 or President Clarice Moss, P.O. Box 635, Boring, 97009, no later than February 1st, to be included in our New 2019 Membership Booklet. We are 18 strong as of this Update.

Mt. Hood's next Executive Board meeting will be Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 11:30 am at Elmer's in Gresham. All are welcome to attend and help plan future meetings and club projects.

Thanks to all who mailed Christmas Cards. They are always included in our Mt. Hood Republican Women Historian's Album.

Another new project for Steve Bates and the Boring Community. Fund raising for a second flagpole at Boring Station Trailhead Park has begun. This will enable both the U.S. Stars and Stripes and the POW-MIA flags to fly beside the Oregon State Flag and the Boring Community Flag 365 days a year. Contributions can be sent to: Boring, Oregon foundation, PO Box 1448, Boring, OR. 97009. For more information call 503-663-6271 or sbates53@aol.com.

Don't forget to request your Senior Discounts. You will be pleased at the money saved.

Now that schools are back in session, please check into and sign up for the "Smart Program". Call 971-634-1603 or E-mail Michelle Gilmore at mgilmore@getsmartoregon.org to be on board in helping children to read. This program is in all of our public schools. If they can't read, our children will never reach their full potential in life. Vice President Kate Drew is a positive spokesman for this program. Take a moment to visit with her at 503-255-8432 and learn how it works.

Remember to thank all Uniformed Protectors, Policemen, Servicemen and Fireman, always on 24-7 alert.

Did you know - - - The total annual White House salaries under President Trump are less, $35.8 million versus $60.9 million under Obama. He also operates with 140 fewer employees than Obama and Melania has only 5 staffers compared to Michelle's 44. The biggest fact is, President Trump donates all of his salary, $400,000, to the Department of the Interior to be used for construction and repair needs at military cemeteries. You'll never see this information in any media release.

Thanks to the Taxpayer Association of Oregon, with Jason Williams, for bringing Sunshine to Portland Mayor's ineffectiveness with the Police Department, the growing homeless population and unwillingness to work with federal authorities on law enforcement along with Governor Brown's give and take back tax programs.

We will have information on Kevin's Taiwan trip coming soon.

Reminder, there will be NO January meeting for Mt. Hood Republican Women. We will resume our regular meeting schedule on February 13, 2019 at Elmer's in Gresham. Our speaker has not yet been confirmed to date.

If you have any information to share, please contact Clarice Moss at 503-658-5227 or claricemoss@yahoo.com

Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year filled with joy, peace and prosperity.

From Aaron Withe (503-951-6208), Oregon Director of Freedom Foundation.

The Freedom Foundation is a regional think and action tank dedicated to removing government unions influence on the political cycle.

Since the Janus decision back in June we've assisted over 6,500 public employees in leaving their union. This has had a significant impact on the unions' revenue.

We've also filed 2 federal class action lawsuits, Anderson and Chambers. If successful, both will have significant financial penalties to the unions in Oregon.
