Don't you just LOVE driving Portland's freeways?
Can't you just hear Robert Duvall exclaiming,
(picture him standing atop every overpass)
"Oh, how I love the smell of exhaust, stale coffee,
spilled anti-freeze and burnt rubber in the morning...
and lunch hour... and evening!" Can you say "congestion"?
OK, how do we fix it? Enter our long-time friend:

Pro-tax?
John used to walk on the dark side, as Director for
the Oregon Environmental Council for 17 years. More
recently, he has become the bane of the existance of
Tri-Met, exposing their financially disasterous
policies, especially their employment contracts and
that leftist dream we call "MAX".
What's MAX cost us? How about no new freeway miles
since I-205 more than 35 years ago: congestion!
Enter the more libertarian view of John Charles.
(Put down your coffee, swallow the last sip)
He advocates tolling -- yes, you read that right --
tolling on Portland freeways. Just like in fairy tales,
(electronic) trolls demanding tribute (charging tolls)
stand at every entrance and exit from the system,
never sleeping, just adjusting the rate per mile,
based on time of day or volume or whatever.
Think of it as "user fees" as a social engineering tool:
the lefties tried to get rid of our cars using congestion,
and since that hasn't gotten us all on light rail,
the libertarian response is to just make us pay more
for the privilege of being screwed by the leftie hatred
of wide expanses of paved, smooth, humming freeways with
dogs' heads out car windows, gums flapping in delight.
Think those fees will buy more freeways?
Don't hold your breath. More neighborhoods shouting for
traffic restrictions. Drop the "R": "FEEWAYS"!
And whose behavior will it change, to get charged less?
Not the poorest among us, who are more likely to have
no option of flex hours or work from home.

Any member or speaker may submit, by email, a simple update text presentation to be sent to the club mailing list, to give the membership to have more details, or just a recap of your platform presentation. The Freedom Foundation is a regional think and action tank dedicated to removing government unions influence on the political cycle.
Last month we launched our decline to sign campaign to all government employees that are members of SEIU 503 and Oregon AFSCME. We exposed the unions misleading tactics to convince employees to give up their rights to cease paying dues to a union. The result of this is over 400 new government employees decided to opt out of their union, which will lead to annual losses of almost $500,000. Read more

By now we all know that the city of Portland is about as transparent as a brick wall, last month I updated you on a legal victory we had over the city of Portland regarding their lack of transparency when it came to the names of their employees. The Oregonian ran with a story exposing the city trying the same tactics with other groups. Read our update

June 29th has been circled in my calendar for some time now. That's the date we expect the supreme court to rule in the favor of workers in the much anticipated Janus v. AFSCME case. If ruled in our favor this decision will bring right to work to Oregon, me and my team couldn't be more prepared.
