Executive Club Meeting!
7:00 pm • Wednesday July 5th • Airport Shilo Inn
Vacation: No Executive Club meeting in August!
What do you call it when puddles no longer WOTUS,
illegal alien invasion down 67%,
no more bah-humbug over coal, CNN quivering?
Progress!
Doin' all those bombs bursting in air on the 4th?
Excellent! Then you'll be ready for more on the 5th,
because we've got two speakers to light up
the evening, in keeping with preserving our freedoms!
You know there's a fetid swamp in D.C.,
And one just as stinky in Salem.
And both are infested with critters that should be retired,
and even some who deserve re-homing to a noisy cellblock!
Well, let's hear what those swamp rats, venomous snakes,
alligators and just plain ol' leeches are doing,
from two folks who know:
John Fund
D.C.
Swamp Guide
Julie Parrish
Salem
Swamp Guide
John Fund is a 30+ year veteran of national politics,
writing for the Wall Street Journal and National Review,
and a friend to Executive Club.
Last fall we hired a swamp drainer, and John is going to
give us his views on the Trump excavation team:
the good, the strange, and the ugly.
Julie Parrish lives in the Salem swamp, but don't
hold it against her too much:
she has some swamp rat pelts on her wall.
This session has been nasty -- taxes, "OHCA", PERS,
election dates -- and she'll give us the damage report.
That ought to generate a few explosions, ya think?
Grab your sunglasses, and join us Wednesday night.

Submitting Followup Information
Executive Club passes on meeting followup information as a courtesy to our speakers and members. Any member or speaker may submit, by email, a simple update text presentation to be sent to the club mailing list, to give the membership to have more details, or just a recap of your platform presentation. To be considered for publication, please be sure to submit your update within 24 hours of the close of the meeting. Please don't include any pictures in your text, but links to web pages, or links to things stored elsewhere on the web -- .pdf files, Word documents, or even pictures -- are OK now. Formatting and inserted pictures will not be copied, just the text content, so please don't use 4 fonts and 6 colors to convey your thoughts: you will be disappointed. Look at a previous followup email, or the bottom of most of the invitation emails, to see how they are presented. The simpler and cleaner your text, the more likely it will appear exactly the same in the email we send out. Each update must also indicate the author's name and contact information -- either a phone number, email address, or website with contact information. We reserve the right to edit for brevity, or reject, any submission.

Timely Information and Events
Jeff Reynolds invites all concerned citizens who want to rein in the federal government to get involved with the Convention of States Project! We are actively recruiting volunteers in all 50 states. Currently we have 2.3 million supporters, and 80,000 active volunteers. There are now 12 states that have applied for an Article V Convention, with the possibility of adding 2 or 3 more before legislatures adjourn this summer. Former Senators Jim DeMint and Tom Coburn are on board, and Coburn has even written a new book! It's called Smashing the DC Monopoly, and is currently #6 on the Amazon best seller list. We're shooting for #1 --

One of the most compelling pieces of research we do at Freedom Foundation is our "Buying Our Politicians" publication. We compile how much government unions spend on politics. We also chase down "hidden" money as an entity donates to one filing, to another, to another. The effort is intensive and dizzying. What we come up with is astonishing.
Our opponents consistently accuse Freedom Foundation of being "partisan" because of this brochure. We mention party affiliation in who government unions support, and it's overwhelmingly one party -- their choice, not ours. We're simply pointing out the numbers.
You can see a link to the brochure below. Please share it liberally. I have hard copies of them if you would like a supply.
Key points I think are interesting from 2016/2017:
How much government unions spent on races they lost. Between the Brad Avakian race and the failure of Measure 97 -- government unions lost about $17.5 million dollars of other people's money. Money that was originally taken out of our pockets as taxes.
Under each listing of top donors, you'll see "Citizen Action for Political Education" -- or CAPE; an arm of SEIU 503. Knowing that CAPE and SEIU 503 are the same, you'll see that SEIU 503 was the top contributor in the statewide races and campaigns highlighted in the foldout. The grand total for SEIU 503 in 2016 in the governor, secretary of state and Measure 97 race alone was $5.7 million dollars. That does not include the local races and other ballot measures we didn't highlight.
Let's not forget the Oregon Education Association (OEA) and its national affiliate, the National Education Association (NEA). Between the local and national affiliate, $7.8 million dollars was spent in Oregon's 2016 election cycle. Those were tax payer dollars earmarked for "education"; not for divisive, partisan politics.
Freedom Foundation's labor reform project stems from this research we do every political cycle. There is an undue influence in state politics when entities can forcibly remove money from employees, without their consent, to be spent in the political cycle -- also without their consent.

HERE for a PDF of the brochure.
Thank you for your ongoing, stalwart support of freedom in Oregon. You are invited to join me in the daily battle we do to disengage the too-cozy relationship between the political left and government unions. Click on the above link to see how you can.
Blessings to you.

Summer, sunshine and flowers have finally arrived in Oregon! The combination of warm weather and the many happy smiles seen on everyone's faces should bring good health back to all those suffering. Now might be a good time to get involved and support Anne Marie Gurney's Freedom In Action work. At least two income tax ballot measures are in the works now with more taxes for our companies which will be reflected in higher prices for all of us. Union leaders don't seem to run short of funds and are working hard to do us in again. Please call Anne Marie at 503-901-5635 to help. We all worked to defeat # 97 and it looks like November 2018 will be another battle to be fought.
