Cascade is an opponent of Ballot Measure 86, the Oregon Opportunity Initiative referred to the November ballot by the legislature at the request of State Treasurer Ted Wheeler. Cascade is raising funds now to place an opposition statement in the Voters Pamphlet. You can read why you should vote No

Next week (August 10-16) is the 2nd annual National Employee Freedom Week promoting the Right to Work for everyone without having to pay forced union dues. Visit
EmployeeFreedomWeek.com for more information.
Our February 2012 report concluded that, upon enactment of a full Right to Work policy, Oregon would have:
50,000 more people working in five years; 110,000 more working in ten years.
$2.7 billion more in wage and salary income in five years; $7.0 billion more in ten years.
14 percent more taxpaying families per year moving here from non-right-to-work states.
All these economic benefits would occur without spending one dime of taxpayer money.
Last year Cascade ran a poll that found nearly one third of Oregon union households would opt out of paying fair share union dues if they could do so legally. The Oregonian published Steve Buckstein’s op-ed with the results,
here.
This year Cascade’s poll asked not just union households, but all adults if they believe that employees should be able to opt out of a union and not pay any dues. What percentage of the 500 respondents do you think answered Yes? The results are embargoed until this Sunday, but if you believe in Employee Choice you’ll be very happy with the results.
The poll results will be released in Steve Buckstein’s Oregonian op-ed that should be published in the paper and online this Sunday on
OregonLive. Last year’s op-ed generated over 900 heated online comments. This year, please consider going online and posting comments on Steve’s Oregonian op-ed supporting Employee Choice and countering the forced unionism crowd.
Finally, Cascade Policy Institute has launched a new website promoting Employee Choice at
OregonEmployeeChoice.com. It features a short video of former Executive Club speaker Harry Beck telling his story how he fought his union for 22 years before winning the right for all Americans to stop paying the political portion of union dues in the 1988 U.S. Supreme Court case, Beck vs. CWA.
