Executive Club Meeting Followup Notes
from the Wednesday, June 4th meeting
I will be making a 15-minute presentation to the Strategic Finance subcommittee of the TriMet Board on June 11 at 7:30 a.m., Portland Building, Room B (second floor). This is a public meeting and open to anyone. My invited testimony will be followed by six other presenters, including a contingent from the Amalgamated Transit Union.
Among other things, I will urge the Board to euthanize the WES commuter rail line; discontinue any more planning for the Southwest Corridor Project; and enact a moratorium on the sale of revenue bonds. I will also encourage the Board to develop a new business model based on one of these two concepts: (1) shrink the size of the TM district by helping form new, smaller districts run by suburban jurisdictions; or (2) outsource all operations to a concessionaire, much as Timberline Lodge has been (successfully) run for over 50 years.
Also, Cascade's next brown-bag lunch lecture will be on June 26 at the CPI office, on the topic of "Common School Trust Lands and the Financial Crisis of the Elliott State Forest." Speakers will be John Charles and attorney Katie Walter. Send an email to
patrick@cascadepolicy.org to reserve a spot. Seating is limited to the first 15 sign-ups.
